Watch ciara like a boy video
Lastly we look at the idea of consumerism as being implicitly called upon in this video. The fact that all the men aren’t fat and are considered to be the same just feeds into the idea that fatness has no self worth. Obviously the boys are the more dominant ones in these relationships. This article supports this video in a unique way. (Kipnis) Fatness is talked about as more of a disease with a cure than a choice of lifestyle or even just an appearance. Our history starts off with Fatness meaning wealth to Fatness meaning the complete opposite. In the Kipnis article size was broken down into class worth. We are buying into all of these stereotypes and just making them stronger than before. This is once again the media influencing what we believe is true in our society. We also get the idea that power only comes in one size, shape and color, and neither are white and fat. (2) From this we receive the implicit message that either men who are over weight don’t have power over women, or men who are overweight don’t even exist in the colored sense. In this video we also see that NO ONE in the video is the least bit over weight. Its how we interpret what we see when we look at a guy of color. This typical black man stereotype came from the idea of these gazes. (Power Point) We see these women dresses as boys who represent the typical black man.
(1) And to think this boy is representing ALL black boys! We get this interpretation from the idea of gendered and racialized gazes. He treats women more as a prize then as a human being.(2) We see this from her lyrics “Security codes on everything…Vibrate so your phone don't ever ring…And another one he don't know about.” Woman are nothing to this boy. He is more about his boy’s than he is about his girlfriend. In this video we see how the boy she is representing obviously dresses in a ghetto way.
The media influences what we see on a day to day basis. You get the impression that only minority men act this way, like white men would never go out at “4 in the morning… On the corner rolling…Doing own thing.”(1) Here is were the media plays a huge role. Her appearance is a very stereotypical version of an inner city man, most likely of color. Her manly features (toned arms), her stance, and her attire resemble men of black pop culture. If we analyze her video we see Ciara dressed up as a guy. More particularly, she discusses the idea of these "boy’s" not enjoying it if roles in relationships were reversed. In the song, “Like a Boy”, Ciara sings about her emotions towards how “boys” act. All that is done is a simple analysis on how stereotypes/media has shaped every aspect of our lives. I begin to dissect the “Like a Boy” song by Ciara, not for its intentional message but for the actual message than you can get out of it.
